The long-awaited Google Android platform for mobile phones is currently in testing, according to reports.
The New York Times states T Mobile is set to be the first network that will offer mobile phones equipped with the system, which is largely thought to be able to give most new handsets "a serious run for the money".
It is reported that HTC will be the manufacturer behind the first mobile phones that support Android and the handsets could debut in the US this October, the publication adds.
Richard Wong of Accell Partners, a group which invests in mobile business, told the newspaper that Android's launch was "an important milestone in the industry" and that the move would also force other manufacturers "to innovate faster".
The rumour for some time has been that the HTC handset would be called the dream and speculation has been rife on the internet right up until an "official" video of the phone was recently posted on YouTube.
